Developing the Comic

For those who want to know more about Froggie: there were several stages to developing the comic. Here's the quick rundown.

Stage 1
Story thumbnails were drafted by the author to capture the basic plot, scenes, and dialogue. Two samples are below.

As you can see, the sketches are rough, but they get the job done.

Stage 2
Next, rough pencil sketches were drawn by the illustrator. These were great for capturing the basic mood and scenes, and taking the story to the next level. For the purpose of pacing and comic styling, some scene modifications were made by the illustrator. Mr. Donelson is such a pro, all the changes looked great.

Stage 3
Then, detailed pencils were drawn. This is where the story really comes alive.

Dialogue edits and scene approval were made to confirm details before the inks.

Stage 4
Finally, the inks were drawn. This is where the real magic happens. The end result is a fantastic comic that beautifully pops on the page.

Froggie Screenplay

People may enjoy knowing that the Froggie comic is based on a full-length screenplay. I wrote the screenplay several years ago, then condensed the story for the 8-page comic.

If you're interested in a sample of the screenplay, here's the first 5 pages.

Thanks to Jeremy Donelson!

A big thanks to Jeremy Donelson, who did the illustrations for Froggie. He's an amazing illustrator with unbelievable talent - and I'm in awe of his work on this project. Honestly, it's hard to imagine anyone else better suited for Froggie. His drawings are absolutely perfect.

If you're interested in seeing Jeremy's other work, check out Division 18. It's really cool stuff.

DC Conspiracy and Small Press Expo (SPX)

So the Froggie comic will make its debut in the DC Conspiracy's sci-fi anthology at this year's Small Press Expo (SPX) on October 4-5, 2008 in Bethesda, MD. The SPX is sure to be an awesome event and the anthology will be a great read.

A special thanks to Evan Keeling for organizing the anthology. He's done a first-rate job of putting this project together.
